About
ILLUTHERM develops an industrial firing process that uses intense blue and UV LED light to heat materials such as steel, ceramics, and cement to over 1000 °C in seconds. The idea came from founder Lukas Porz’s doctoral work on rapid ceramic heating, which produced flawless parts in a fraction of the time and with far less energy than conventional furnaces. Porz founded the startup in spring 2023 with Michael Scherer and Miltiadis Vlachos to replace millennia-old furnace technology and make heavy industry more sustainable and efficient.
