HyperKelp is an Encinitas, California-based startup that builds hosted-payload smart buoys for real-time ocean surface data collection. Its modular hardware platform supports any sensor type and enables mesh network analytics, environmental monitoring, and hypersonic early-warning applications. HyperKelp's buoys are engineered to operate autonomously for up to a year and can house up to 20 sensors per unit. The company has deployed smart buoys in San Diego Bay in partnership with the Port of San Diego through its Blue Economy Incubator program, and is expanding into Europe and the South Pacific. Founded in 2021 by CEO Graeme Rae.
