HAOLIFANG

Haolifang is a Chinese operator of regional supermarkets and convenience stores, founded in 2009 and headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The company pioneered a retail concept that maximizes underused urban space: it opens supermarkets in urban areas and sublets roughly a third of the floor space to other retail merchants such as mobile phone stores and restaurants, creating an integrated shopping destination. It also operated small-scale 'container supermarkets' built from repurposed mobile storage units on vacant land to serve rural and suburban communities. Haolifang was backed by investors including Cathay Capital Private Equity before the company was later deadpooled.
