About
Growing Underground is the world's first subterranean farm, growing herbs and salad leaves 33 metres beneath the streets of Clapham, London, inside disused World War II air-raid shelter tunnels. Co-founded by Richard Ballard and Steven Dring in 2015 under parent company Zero Carbon Farms, the company uses hydroponic vertical farming with controlled LED lighting and irrigation to produce pesticide-free crops that can reach tables within four hours of harvest.
