About
Gorillas was a Berlin-based on-demand grocery delivery startup founded in 2020 that promised 10-minute delivery directly from its own network of micro-warehouses (dark stores). Backed by Delivery Hero and other investors, it reached a $1 billion valuation within six months of launch — one of the fastest unicorns in history. Gorillas expanded across Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, the US, and France before the rapid-delivery market contracted sharply in 2022. In December 2022, Turkish competitor Getir acquired Gorillas in a deal valuing the combined entity at $10 billion. Getir subsequently wound down Gorillas-branded operations across Europe, with final closures in Germany in May 2024.
