EX-Fusion

EX-Fusion is Japan's first and only full-stack private laser fusion company, founded in 2021 by Kazuki Matsuo following research at Osaka University and UC San Diego. Headquartered in Suita, Osaka, the company is developing gigawatt-scale laser-based inertial fusion energy power plants using high-repetition-rate, direct-drive fast ignition technology. In addition to fusion energy, EX-Fusion applies its laser and photonics expertise to adjacent industries including manufacturing, semiconductors, biomedical, and aerospace, generating near-term revenue to fund its core fusion mission. The company has raised approximately $18.1 million (JPY 2.6 billion) in funding.
