Embrane was a network virtualization company that built the first distributed, elastic software platform for virtualizing network services such as firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and WAN optimization in the data center. Founded in 2009 in Santa Clara, California, Embrane's heleos platform enabled cloud providers and enterprises to deploy virtualized network services on demand without dedicated hardware appliances. The company raised approximately $21M before being acquired by Cisco in April 2015.
