Elysis

ELYSIS is a Canadian technology company headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, developing a revolutionary carbon-free aluminum smelting process. Formed through an unprecedented joint venture between aluminum industry giants Alcoa and Rio Tinto — with investment and technical support from Apple and backing from both the Canadian and Quebec governments — ELYSIS has secured more than CAD $650 million in funding. The ELYSIS technology eliminates all direct greenhouse gas emissions from aluminum smelting and uniquely produces oxygen as a by-product instead of CO2, replacing traditional carbon anodes with proprietary inert anode materials. The technology is designed to retrofit existing smelters and new installations, transforming the global aluminum industry's carbon footprint.
