About
CorInnova is developing a minimally invasive, non-blood contacting cardiac assist device for acute heart failure treatment, backed by a lead investment from Wellcome Trust. The device is collapsible, allowing it to be delivered and secured to the heart in a minimally invasive manner, and it conforms to the surface of the heart and gently compresses it to increase cardiac output using an external pneumatic driver that operates in synchrony with the heartbeat. Because it increases cardiac output without touching the blood, the device eliminates the risk of thrombosis and stroke due to device blood contact and the need for anti-coagulants.
