Conocer Inc. (株式会社コノセル), founded in January 2020 by CEO Osamu Tanabe — a Development Bank of Japan and BCG alum who led the Studysapuri business at Quipper — operates 'Kono-juku,' a hybrid tutoring school aimed at students preparing for public high school entrance exams. Kono-juku combines high-quality video lessons, individualized coaching from on-site classroom directors, and student learning-data analytics, positioning itself as a higher-quality, more affordable alternative to traditional cram schools. Within about five years of launch the company expanded Kono-juku to dozens of physical locations across Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Osaka. Conocer's stated mission is to restore education to helping each learner reach their own goals, rather than optimizing purely for test scores, by fusing people, physical learning spaces, and technology.
