The social network built for TV viewers
ConnecTV was a second-screen TV application developed by SMRTV Inc., founded in 2010 and based in Emeryville, California. The app automatically synced a viewer's tablet or smartphone to the TV show being watched, providing bonus content (actor bios, trivia), social commentary, a SocialTV Timeline feed, and an ad-syncing feature that delivered complementary mobile ads alongside TV commercials. The company was backed by major U.S. TV broadcast groups representing ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, MyNetworkTV, and CW in 45 of the top 50 markets. Co-founded by former TV Guide president Ian Aaron, former TiVo technology head Alan Moskowitz, and former TiVo CPO Stacy Jolna, ConnecTV raised $1.4M in 2013.
