About
ChangeTip was a social Bitcoin tipping platform founded in December 2013 by Nick Sullivan in San Francisco, California. The platform enabled users to send Bitcoin micropayments as tips across social media networks including Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, and others, by leaving a simple comment that triggered the tip. ChangeTip abstracted away the complexity of Bitcoin addresses by allowing users to reference others by their social media handles. The service attracted significant adoption in the Bitcoin community and processed tens of thousands of tips per day at its peak. In 2015, ChangeTip raised additional funding to scale operations. The company was subsequently acqui-hired by Airbnb and shut down its tipping service in 2016, with users advised to withdraw their balances before closure.
