Carmot

Carmot Therapeutics was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Berkeley, California, focused on developing best-in-class treatments for obesity and diabetes. The company pioneered a proprietary drug discovery platform to design novel GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists with biased signaling properties designed to minimize receptor desensitization and improve tolerability. Its pipeline included CT-868 (a GLP-1/GIP dual agonist in Phase 2 for obesity in type 1 diabetes), CT-388 (a once-weekly injectable dual GLP-1/GIP agonist in Phase 1b), and CT-996 (a once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist in Phase 1). Carmot was founded in 2008 by Stig Hansen and Daniel Erlanson. In December 2023, Roche entered into a definitive merger agreement to acquire Carmot for approximately $2.7 billion, with the acquisition closing in January 2024. Carmot's pipeline assets continue development under Roche/Genentech.
