Carbyon is a Dutch direct air capture company founded in 2019 by Hans De Neve as a spinout from TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), based at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. The company has developed a patented ultra-fast sorbent thin-film technology that captures atmospheric CO2 at industry-leading low energy consumption (under 2,500 kWh/ton), enabling economically scalable carbon removal at costs below $100 per ton. Carbyon won the $1 million XPRIZE Carbon Removal Milestone Award in 2022 and raised a €15.3M Series A in 2024 to advance its engineering-scale demonstrators toward gigaton-scale deployment by 2050.
