Cabochon Aesthetics

Cabochon Aesthetics was a Menlo Park-based medical device company founded in 2005 by premier medical device incubator The Foundry. The company developed the Cellfina system, an FDA-cleared minimally invasive procedure for improving the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thighs of adult females. The proprietary precision-guided, vacuum-assisted system targets fibrous septae — the tight connective-tissue bands underlying cellulite dimples — releasing them to produce a smoother skin appearance. Clinical pivotal study data showed that a single Cellfina procedure achieved 85% patient satisfaction at three months and 94% at one year. Cabochon was acquired by Ulthera, Inc. in March 2014, which subsequently brought the product to market. Ulthera was later acquired by Merz Aesthetics for $600M.
