ASCAP

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is the first and only not-for-profit performing rights organization (PRO) in the United States, founded in 1914 and governed by its creator members. ASCAP licenses over 20 million songs and scores to businesses that play music publicly, then distributes 90 cents of every dollar collected back to its 1.1 million member songwriters, composers, and music publishers — one of the lowest operating expense ratios in the industry. The organization also advocates for creator rights in Congress and on music policy issues globally. ASCAP is headquartered in New York City.
