Generative behavior for the future of games
Artificial Agency is an Edmonton-based AI startup founded in 2023 by Brian Tanner (CEO, 25 years in reinforcement learning, former DeepMind) and Alex Kearney (PhD in Reinforcement Learning under Richard Sutton, former DeepMind Research Scientist). The company's behavior engine integrates foundation models into games to produce autonomous, generative behavior for non-player characters and game systems. Purpose-built for game developers and studios of any size, the engine enables a new generation of games that are highly adaptive and intelligent. Artificial Agency raised $16M USD and launched publicly in July 2025. The team includes veterans from BioWare, Riot Games, DeepMind, and EA with experience on Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Anthem, and Call of Duty.
