Applied Ocean Sciences (AOS) is an employee-owned collective of ocean scientists and engineers specializing in ocean acoustics, oceanography, and marine environmental science. Founded in 2019, AOS is powered by a passion for the highest caliber science and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation. The team — more than half of whom hold PhDs — brings extensive expertise in ocean acoustic measurements and modeling, oceanography, marine biology, geospatial science, passive acoustic sensing, and science communication. AOS develops the fastest, most efficient acoustics computer models available and applies them to operational challenges including maritime safety, defense, conservation, and climate change. The company collaborates with academic, government, and nonprofit partners to make the ocean safer, cleaner, and more resilient. AOS was acquired by Entanglement, Inc. in late 2025 and now operates as part of Maritech Intelligence Systems, combining AOS's deep ocean domain expertise with quantum-enabled AI. Funding is drawn primarily from the U.S. Navy (71%), other government agencies (24%), NGOs (3%), and private industry (2%).
