Originally founded as Speaktoit in 2010 by Ilya Gelfenbeyn, Artem Goncharuk, and Pavel Sirotin, the company released its API to third-party developers in September 2014 under the Api.ai brand. The platform supported speech recognition, natural language understanding, and text-to-speech, with over 60,000 developers building on it and more than 20 million end users. Google acquired Api.ai in September 2016 and rebranded it as Dialogflow in October 2017, integrating it into Google Cloud Platform.
