Allergen Alert

Allergen Alert is a French deeptech startup and spin-off of bioMérieux, a global leader in in-vitro diagnostics and food safety. The company is developing a portable, pocket-sized mini lab device that enables individuals and food service professionals to detect food allergens and gluten in meals quickly and reliably — with results in minutes. The device automates and miniaturizes professional laboratory allergen-detection methods, requiring no scientific expertise from the user. Allergen Alert was founded after CEO Bénédicte Astier's daughter suffered an anaphylactic shock, inspiring a mission to make eating safer for the 550 million people worldwide living with food allergies. The company targets consumers with severe food allergies, celiac disease, as well as restaurants, hotels, schools, hospitals, and travel operators. Allergen Alert won the Best Startup award at CES 2026 and was selected among the top 100 startups to invest in 2026 by Challenges magazine. The device detects the nine major allergens responsible for 80% of allergic reactions, including peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, and sesame. Pre-orders are expected from late 2026, with the company targeting the US market as a future expansion.
