AgriProtein was a South Africa-based agricultural biotechnology company founded in 2008 that pioneered large-scale insect bioconversion of organic waste into sustainable protein ingredients. The company raised black soldier fly larvae on organic waste streams to produce MagMeal, an insect-based protein product used in animal feed for agriculture and aquaculture. AgriProtein opened the world's first industrial-scale insect facility in Cape Town in 2016. The company became part of Insect Technology Group (ITG) and entered administration in early 2021.
