AEP Transmission

AEP Transmission is a business unit and subsidiary of American Electric Power Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEP), one of the largest electric utility companies in the United States. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, AEP Transmission owns and operates the nation's largest electricity transmission network — approximately 40,000 miles — including more 765-kilovolt extra-high voltage lines than all other U.S. transmission systems combined. The system brings high-voltage power from generation facilities to substations across 11 states, where it is stepped down for distribution to customers. AEP Transmission invests significantly in grid modernization and resiliency, including proprietary technologies such as BOLD (Breakthrough Overhead Line Design), a compact high-efficiency transmission technology developed internally. The parent company, American Electric Power, was incorporated in 1906 (as American Gas and Electric Company) and serves more than five million customers. AEP Transmission is not an independently incorporated entity but operates as a distinct business segment and brand within AEP, focused on transmission infrastructure investment, grid reliability, and supporting the energy transition through expanded renewable integration capacity.
