Achaogen

Achaogen was a late-stage biopharmaceutical company headquartered in South San Francisco, California, committed to the discovery, development, and commercialization of innovative antibacterial agents to treat multi-drug resistant (MDR) gram-negative infections. Its lead product, plazomicin (marketed as Zemdri), was a next-generation aminoglycoside antibiotic engineered to overcome key resistance mechanisms and received FDA approval in 2018 for complicated urinary tract infections. The company received significant funding from BARDA and other government agencies to advance its antibiotic pipeline, but filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2019 after struggling to achieve commercial traction, with its assets subsequently acquired by Cipla USA.
