Acacia Communications

Acacia Communications develops silicon-based high-speed optical interconnect products that replace exotic optical materials with CMOS-scale silicon photonics for cloud and communications networks. Founded in 2009 by Mehrdad Givehchi, Benny P. Mikkelsen, and Christian J. Rasmussen, the company introduced its first product in 2011 and later completed an IPO in 2016. Its modules and DSPs serve more than 25 cloud and service-provider customers across data-center interconnect, metro, long-haul, submarine, and access networks. Corporate headquarters are in Maynard, Massachusetts; Cisco completed its acquisition of Acacia in 2021, and the business continues to operate under the Acacia brand.
