Paul Allen
Paul G. Allen (1953-2018) co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975 and later founded Vulcan Inc., the Seattle-based company that managed his business and philanthropic activities. Through Vulcan he built a multi-billion-dollar investment portfolio spanning technology, media, life sciences, aerospace, and real estate, with early bets including AOL, Ticketmaster, DreamWorks, and Starwave. He was also the sole financial backer of Burt Rutan's SpaceShipOne. Following his 2018 death, Vulcan Capital's venture/growth-equity arm was spun off in 2022 into an independent firm, Cercano Management.
