About

Xfire was a freeware instant messaging and social networking platform for PC gamers, originally developed in Menlo Park, California. Founded in 2002 by Dennis Fong, Mike Cassidy, Max Woon, and David Lawee, the platform allowed gamers to track which games their friends were playing, join game servers, take in-game screenshots, record video, and communicate via text and voice chat. At its peak Xfire supported over 3,000 games and amassed more than 24 million registered users. In April 2006, Viacom acquired Xfire for $102 million; it was subsequently sold to Titan Gaming in 2010. After attempting a pivot toward Asian markets, Xfire shut down its social services on June 12, 2015, and ceased all operations by April 30, 2016.
