Whisker Labs is a Germantown, Maryland-based home intelligence and fire prevention company, spun out from Earth Networks in 2017. The company's flagship product, Ting, is a plug-in smart sensor that monitors a home's entire electrical network, analyzing 30 million electrical signals per second using AI to detect dangerous arcing conditions that commonly precede electrical fires. Ting has been deployed in over 1.2 million homes and has demonstrated a track record of preventing 4 out of 5 electrical fires in homes where hazards are detected. Beyond individual home safety, Whisker Labs operates a nationwide sensor network that provides real-time grid intelligence — tracking power outages, grid faults, and resilience metrics at a hyperlocal level, making it valuable to insurance carriers, utilities, and municipalities. The company has raised four rounds of funding including a Series C in December 2021 and counts State Farm Ventures among its investors.
