Axana is a portable, AI-enhanced magnetic resonance brain scanner that eliminates traditional imaging bottlenecks by bringing stroke diagnostics directly to patients. By moving diagnostic decisions upstream, Axana aims to enable faster thrombolysis locally and faster transfer for thrombectomy when needed. Wellumio, founded in 2019 in Wellington, New Zealand by co-CEOs Dr Shieak Tzeng and Dr Sergei Obruchkov, addresses the emergency-medicine "time is brain" problem, where every minute without treatment after a stroke destroys nearly two million brain cells, by targeting the critical first-60-minute Golden Hour window.
