Improving Adherence of Ocular Medication
Universal Adherence LLC is an emerging medical device company based in Portland, Oregon dedicated to improving patient adherence to ocular medications. The company developed the Devers Drop Device (D3), a smart cap that attaches to eye drop bottles and tracks when the cap is removed, wirelessly communicating usage data to a secure database accessible by clinicians and researchers, and sending alerts to patients when medication is due. The device targets glaucoma patients, where vision loss is preventable with medication but adherence is chronically poor. The D3 has been evaluated in a 50-patient clinical trial with high satisfaction and willingness-to-pay reported. Funding includes NIH SBIR awards from the National Eye Institute.
