UMN Pharma is a Japanese biopharmaceutical venture company founded in 2004 and headquartered in Akita, Japan, specializing in next-generation vaccine development using proprietary protein expression technology. The company developed recombinant influenza vaccines and collaborated with Shionogi, Daiichi Sankyo, and Protein Sciences on norovirus and Zika vaccine programs. In 2017, Shionogi acquired UMN Pharma and by 2019 it became a wholly-owned subsidiary. As of October 2024, Shionogi announced the reorganization and liquidation of UMN Pharma, with its Akita production facility transferring to Shionogi Pharma.
