Truven Health Analytics was formed in June 2012 when Veritas Capital acquired Thomson Reuters' healthcare unit, becoming an independent company providing cloud-based healthcare data and analytics services. IBM acquired Truven for $2.6 billion in February 2016 and merged it into Watson Health; the business now operates as part of Merative, formed in 2022 after Francisco Partners acquired the Watson Health assets. The name is a portmanteau of 'trusted' and 'proven.'
