Third Coast Dynamics is a Northwestern University spinout developing a cloud-based risk stratification tool for aortic diseases. The company uses artificial intelligence to extract hemodynamic imaging biomarkers — specifically 4D blood flow metrics — directly from standard CT angiography and MR angiography images, without requiring additional specialized imaging. By applying deep learning to anatomic imaging, Third Coast Dynamics enables clinicians to assess aortic disease severity and patient risk in a way previously unavailable from routine scans. The technology was developed by Dr. Brad Allen and Professor Michael Markl of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. The company won first place at the 2024 MIT Sloan School of Management Healthcare Innovations Prize and has received NIH SBIR funding to advance its platform toward clinical deployment.
