Texas A&M University opened in 1876 as the state's first public institution of higher learning and has grown into one of the nation's largest research universities. Located in College Station, Texas, it enrolls more than 71,000 students on its main campus and thousands more at branch campuses in Galveston and Qatar and at the School of Law in Fort Worth. Texas A&M holds the distinction of being 1 of 24 institutions in the nation with the triple designation as a land-, sea-, and space-grant university. The university conducts nearly $1.4 billion in research annually, representing 1 in every 5 research dollars spent in Texas, and generates a $22 billion annual state economic impact.
