TemanJalan was an Indonesian social carpooling platform designed specifically for university students, connecting riders and drivers traveling the same routes and schedules via a chatbot interface on the LINE messaging platform. Founded by Fauzan Helmi Sudaryanto, Caraka Nur Azmi, and Rasmunandar Rustam — three co-founders who graduated from the University of Indonesia — the platform originated as a standalone Android app before achieving explosive growth after integrating with LINE's chatbot platform, recording 70 times more daily successful transactions on LINE compared to other platforms. TemanJalan separated users into 'Riders' (vehicle owners) and 'Hunters' (those seeking rides), used gamification with points redeemable for gas or restaurant vouchers, and required student ID verification to ensure safety. The service operated across more than 50 university campuses and facilitated over 100,000 carpooling matches before its acquisition. LINE Indonesia acquired TemanJalan on November 17, 2017, for an undisclosed sum, making it LINE's first acquisition in the Indonesian market.
