About

Taiko Labs is building a based, decentralized Ethereum scaling solution — specifically a Type 1 ZK-EVM (ZK-Rollup) that is fully Ethereum-equivalent, supporting all EVM opcodes without modifications. Founded in March 2022 by Daniel Wang, Brecht Devos, and Terence Lam, Taiko's core mission is to scale Ethereum while preserving the principles of decentralization, permissionlessness, and censorship resistance. Unlike other Layer 2 solutions, Taiko operates with no centralized sequencers and is governed by a community DAO. The protocol uses a three-stage process (propose, prove, verify) to batch transactions and generate ZK proofs, enabling fast and low-cost transactions while maintaining Ethereum's security guarantees. Taiko raised $22 million across two seed rounds from investors including Sequoia, BAI Capital, and KuCoin. The mainnet launched in 2024, and the project is progressing toward full Stage 2 rollup decentralization.
