Symphera

Symphera GmbH is a Munich-based medical device company founded in 2023, incubated at TU Munich and UnternehmerTUM and originating from research at the University Hospital Basel. The company is developing an all-in-one laparoscopic surgical system that integrates multiple instrument tips into a single device, enabling automated in-body tool changes without removing and reinserting instruments between each switch. By eliminating the 20–50 manual tool exchanges typical in a single laparoscopic procedure, Symphera aims to reduce operating time by up to 20%, lower surgical complications, and cut costs for hospitals performing the approximately 15 million laparoscopic surgeries performed globally each year.
