Starbucks is a specialty coffee roaster, marketer and retailer founded in 1971 at Seattle's Pike Place Market and headquartered in Seattle, Washington. The company purchases and roasts whole-bean coffees and sells them along with handcrafted espresso beverages, brewed coffee, teas, packaged goods and food through a global network of company-operated and licensed stores. Beyond its retail footprint, Starbucks sells packaged coffee and ready-to-drink beverages through grocery and consumer channels, and runs a widely used mobile app with ordering, payment and a rewards loyalty program. It employs a very large global workforce, which it refers to internally as partners, and supports store teams with benefits including health coverage eligibility at 20 hours per week and upfront tuition coverage.
