Spiration

Spiration was a medical device company founded in 1999 in Redmond, Washington, focused on developing minimally invasive bronchoscopic treatments for patients with severe emphysema and other chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. The company's flagship product, the Spiration Valve System (SVS), is an umbrella-shaped one-way endobronchial valve placed via flexible bronchoscope to reduce hyperinflation in damaged lung segments, offering a customized, reversible alternative to surgical lung volume reduction. Spiration received FDA approval for the SVS in 2018 and was acquired by Olympus Corporation, subsequently operating as Olympus Respiratory America. The Spiration Valve System remains commercially available through Olympus's medical division.
