Sparrow was a third-party email client for OS X and iOS known for a simplified, Twitter-like interface for Gmail and other accounts. After a beta period, the Mac app went on sale in the Mac App Store on February 9, 2011 and quickly became a top paid app. Google acquired the company on July 20, 2012 and hired the team to work on Gmail; Sparrow then ceased continued development except for critical bug fixes. The sparrowmailapp.com domain now serves Google Gmail rather than an independent Sparrow company.
