Sophia (trysophia.com) was a Boston-based startup that matched people seeking therapy with licensed in-person therapists, psychologists, and life counselors, effectively acting as client-acquisition and practice infrastructure for independent mental health therapists. At its peak the platform had a network of over 120 therapists and 20 life coaches, serving more than 1,000 customers. Founded in 2017 by Bowen Lu, Chetan Jhaveri, and Eva Breitenbach and backed by Techstars and MIT delta v, the company shut down in November 2018 after struggling with insurance-based matching complexity.
