The world's best sunscreen, powered by biomimetic protein chemistry
Sóliome spun out of Princeton University in 2021 and is backed by SOSV's IndieBio program. Founded by CEO Micah Nelp and co-founder Anthony, both chemists, the company's core technology is based on biomimicry of the human eye's natural sun protection mechanisms — using synthetic protein-derived peptide chemistry to create UV filters that are biologically safe and environmentally friendly. Unlike conventional chemical sunscreens, Sóliome's active ingredient withstands continued UV exposure without degrading, eliminating the need for frequent reapplication. The company targets a $4B US sunscreen market facing regulatory tailwinds as jurisdictions including Hawaii, Palau, and Thailand ban harmful chemical filters. Sóliome has already achieved cost-of-goods-sold targets equivalent to fully scaled on-market sunscreens.
