Soda World

SodaWorld is an African-created and developed technology platform founded in 2020 in Johannesburg, South Africa by Mic Balkind that enables artists to earn revenue from within the metaverse through live virtual music events, immersive VR experiences, and a Twitch and Netflix-style streaming portal. The platform streams live performances from its high-tech Soda Studios in downtown Johannesburg and has hosted over 60 virtual events featuring top South African artists, reaching more than 6,000 attendees with an average watch time of over one hour. SodaWorld secured early investment from Swiss blockchain-focused VC firm CV VC and was selected as a special project at the Venice Biennale Venice VR programme in 2022.
