SixPoint Materials produces gallium nitride (GaN) crystals used in energy, wireless, defense, and industrial technologies. Founded as a spin-off from the Nitrides group in the materials department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, the company commercializes ammonothermal growth of bulk GaN crystal developed under the Nakamura Inhomogeneous Crystal Project in the ERATO program. Ammonothermal technology is intended to deliver higher-quality, lower-cost GaN wafers than conventional hydride vapor phase epitaxy, enabling GaN-on-GaN devices including high-power and RF devices, ultra-high-brightness LEDs, and industrial blue/green laser diodes.
