Sintact Medical Systems is a Bloomington, Indiana medical device startup that developed the Sintact Barrier Film, a thin biocompatible, non-degrading polymer film designed to prevent surgical adhesions — bands of scar tissue that form after abdominal and gynecological surgery in up to 93% of patients. Founded by Northwestern University PhDs Erik Robinson and Gali Baler, the company received Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR/STTR) funding from the National Science Foundation to advance the technology toward FDA 510(k) clearance.
