Simmbion is a veteran-owned pre-clinical biotech company based in Baltimore, Maryland within the LifeBridge Health business incubator at Sinai Hospital. The company engineers symbiotic synthetic cells — branded Simmbions™ — that act as implantable living pharmacies, secreting therapeutic proteins and peptides such as insulin and GLP-1 directly into the bloodstream via a single injection lasting up to one year or more and reversible with antimicrobials. Simmbion's platform is designed to be disease-agnostic, tunable, and universally immune-compatible, with minimal cold-chain requirements. Initial commercialization targets companion animals (cats and dogs) requiring biologic therapies, with a parallel track toward rare orphan diseases such as Gaucher's disease.
