Salt Bank

Salt Bank is Romania's first fully digital bank, launched in April 2024. Originally founded in 1998 as Romanian International Bank and later rebranded as Idea Bank, the institution was acquired by Banca Transilvania in 2021 and relaunched as Salt Bank in November 2023 after partnering with Starling Bank's cloud-native Engine platform. Built in just 12 months by GFT Technologies on Engine by Starling core banking infrastructure, Salt Bank offers instant payments via RoPay, securities investments via Upvest, and a full suite of modern digital banking services. The bank doubled its customer growth projections in its first year and has positioned itself as the benchmark for digital banking in Romania, serving customers entirely through its mobile app with no legacy branch infrastructure.
