Turning carbon emissions into planet-positive textiles
Rubi Laboratories develops a patent-pending, cell-free biocatalytic process that converts carbon emissions from industrial waste streams into carbon-negative cellulosic textiles. Founded in 2021 by twin sisters Neeka and Leila Mashouf — one with a background in materials science, the other in bioengineering — Rubi's technology enables apparel brands to produce the same high-quality viscose-equivalent textiles while avoiding and capturing CO2, consuming virtually zero water or land. The company partners with fashion brands including Patagonia, H&M Group, GANNI, and Reformation on pilot programs to decarbonize supply chains, and is backed by Collab Fund, Necessary Ventures, Climate Capital, and others.
