About
Rdio was an online music streaming service founded in 2008 by Skype Technologies co-founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, officially launching on August 3, 2010. The service offered ad-supported free streaming and ad-free subscription streaming in over 85 countries. Rdio differentiated itself through strong social features, allowing users to share songs, albums, and playlists with friends. Unable to compete with Spotify's rapid growth, Rdio filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2015 and sold key intellectual property to Pandora for $75 million in cash, discontinuing service on December 22, 2015.
