Founded in the early 1990s, Pyxis developed the MedStation, an automated cabinet that securely stored and dispensed narcotic and other controlled medications at the point of care. Cardinal Health acquired Pyxis Corporation in 1996. The Pyxis product line later became part of CareFusion when Cardinal Health spun off its clinical and medical products segment in 2009, and subsequently was acquired by BD (Becton Dickinson) in 2015 for $12 billion.
