Pula is an African-founded agricultural insurance and data company that helps smallholder farmers manage climate and agronomic risk at scale. Co-founded in 2015 by Rose Goslinga and Thomas Njeru, Pula pioneered area yield index insurance (AYII) products and introduced the bundling of insurance with agricultural inputs such as seeds. Operating across 22 countries, Pula partners with governments, global reinsurers, development finance institutions, and agribusinesses to embed insurance into existing farmer touchpoints — such as national fertilizer subsidy programs and input supply chains. The company has insured over 20 million farmers, protected $2.6 billion in agricultural investment, facilitated $133.9 million in payouts, and collected 875+ million data points on smallholder productivity. In 2022, Pula became profitable and has since expanded into EUDR compliance services. Pula raised a Series B in 2024 backed by BlueOrchard, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Women's World Banking. The company is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with offices in Switzerland and Ethiopia.
